It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here again! It is one of the most important days of the year in our house. For more than a decade now, I’ve woken up at like 4 a.m. and started cooking dozens of dishes—mostly sides—to create a huge feast for the fam, but last year I pared things down. It made me realize what our absolute MUST-HAVE Thanksgiving foods are...and these are them!
These are my top five favorites of all time. There’s a perfect garlicky-herb roast chicken (never turkey in this house!) with mom’s easy gravy, John’s famous mac ‘n’ cheese, his granny’s collard greens, cheeeesy green bean casserole, and the pie to end all pies: my sweet potato streusel pie. You can add anything else you like to your Thanksgiving menu—this is meant to build upon! There's always room for extra-buttery mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing (I'm partial to a box of Stove Top...), and a festive beverage like fall rosé sangria (with wine or berry-flavored sparkling water for if you’re not drinking). But that’s it! Thanksgiving is handled. You’re welcome.
