If you haven’t heard of a Seattle Hot Dog, let me share its gloriousness. It’s a ballpark and late night food favorite with cream cheese slathered inside a toasted buttered bun, kind of like a mashup of a bagel and a hot dog. SO you know what they say, when in Seattle do as the Seattle-ians (?) do! I went all the back to my hometown of Snohomish, Washington, and made this with the wonderful people who live in my childhood home! (Watch a video of it here!) I used all local ingredients from Pike Place Market and whipped up my first Seattle Dog for us all to try, using spicy sausage instead of regular hot dogs. (I honestly was more nervous about undercooking the sausage than anything.) It was delicious—and spicy!—but I wanted to make a few edits once I came home, so here it is: My ultimate Seattle Dog recipe for you all to enjoy. Try it! I swear it’s way better than you think!
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 Louisiana-style Red Hot Smoked Sausages or hot dog of your choice
1 medium sweet onion, such as Vidalia or Walla Walla, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper or jalapeño (if you like it spicy), seeded and thinly sliced
4 sturdy hot dog rolls or hoagie-style rolls
4 tablespoons salted butter, softened
4 tablespoons cream cheese
+ Chrissy’s Honey Mustard Fry Sauce or spicy brown mustard for serving (optional)
You'll never go back to plain hot dogs again.
Flavor-packed snack mix to eat by the handful.
Your new favorite wings aren't chicken.
Pigs in blankets, but make it fashion.
