Grill-What-You’ve Got Skewers with Drunken BBQ Sauce

SERVES: 6 PREP: 20 minutes TOTAL TIME: 3 hours (including marinating)

Because you can't grill noodles, glaze any meat and veggies with a drunken noodle–inspired BBQ sauce!

It’s time to fire up the grill and make some...noodles? Okay, so you can’t grill noodles. Noted. But you can slather skewers in a drunken noodle–inspired BBQ sauce that is sweet, salty, tangy, a little spicy, and goes well with just about ANYTHING. Clean out your fridge with vegetables that are languishing in the crisper drawer, add meat (like cubed steak, pork, or peeled and deveined shrimp)—or go meatless if that’s your thing—and stick it all on a skewer. If you’re not sure what veggies to buy, go for whatever is the most colorful, like tomatoes, mixed peppers, and red onion. Just remember to cook marinated meat and vegetables on separate skewers because they cook at different times!

For the sauce:

  • 6 tablespoons oyster sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (or 2 more tablespoons soy sauce + 1 tablespoon sugar)

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 medium jalapeño, coarsely chopped

  • 4 cloves smashed garlic

  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper

  • ¼ cup chopped Thai (or regular) basil, plus more for garnish

For the skewers:

  • 1 ½ pounds meat of your choice, cut into 1 ½-inch cubes

  • 1 pound vegetables of your choice, cut into 1-inch pieces (such as onions, zucchini, bell peppers, or cherry tomatoes left whole)

  • + Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
