Let’s get ready to crumbleeee! Turn the classic dessert into an easy, delicious snack.
We've teamed up with our friends at Chex™ cereal for a brand-new flavor, Apple Cinnamon Chex™, and a recipe that transforms apple crumble into a delightful snack mix.
What do you do when you want a really comforting dessert but are feeling a little too lazy to bake one from scratch? Make a snack mix version of it instead! The flavors of a classic apple crumble—cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter—are packed into crunchy oat clusters, and pair perfectly with Apple Cinnamon Chex™, apple chips, and almonds. Try sprinkling some onto your morning yogurt, on top of ice cream, or just eat it by the handful!
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, add oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and sea salt; mix well. Use a pastry blender or fork to cut in butter, until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in water until the mixture comes together. Spread out evenly in the pan; press down slightly on mixture to hold together.
Bake for 10 minutes; stir gently. Continue baking 10–13 minutes or until the mixture is light golden brown. Cool completely on parchment in the pan, about 1 hour. Carefully break into small clusters.
In a large serving bowl, mix cereal, apple chips and almonds; stir in clusters. Store in a covered container at room temperature. Optional, but encouraged upgrade: Gently warm ½ cup of your favorite caramel sauce and stir in 2 tablespoons heavy cream until smooth. Pour over the mix. Serve as a snack, in a yogurt parfait, or over vanilla ice cream.
