Pizza is a necessary comfort food at any time, but right now it just feels ESSENTIAL. There are few things better than eating a homemade pizza – you can choose whatever topping you want and eat it piping hot straight out of the oven. If you’re on a homemade bread kick I applaud you, but if you’re not (like me) and need more options, I came up with three easy, delicious ways to make pizza crust. They take no more than 30 minutes and are so so good. Some of them might be a little unconventional, but trust me – the weirdest combos often times make the best foods.
- 1 small cauliflower (about 1¼ pounds)
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Pizza Sauce
- Alfredo Sauce in a Jar
- Prepared Pesto
- Shredded Mozzarella
- Shaved Parm
- Red Onions
- Green Peppers
Choose your crust:
Matzo, tortilla, or cauliflower.
Make the Matzo or Tortilla Pizza:
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Choose your base and top it with any sauce, vegetables, and meats of your choice. Place pizza on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
Make the Cauliflower Crust:
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with a clean kitchen towel. Bring ½-inch of water to a boil over high heat in a wide skillet with a lid. Grate the cauliflower on the large holes of a box grater, then add to the boiling water, spread out evenly, cover, reduce heat to medium, and steam the cauliflower for 5 minutes. (You can also steam in a regular pot or in a glass bowl in the microwave.)
Drain any water from the cauliflower, dump it onto the towel, spread it out, and let it cool slightly. Gather the towel around the cauliflower, making sure it is secure, and squeeze out as much extra liquid as you can.
Dump the cauliflower into a bowl and add the mozzarella, egg, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper. Line the baking sheet with parchment and use your hands to spread the “dough” into a 10-inch circle. Bake until golden and the edges are browned, 20 minutes. Top with your favorite sauce and pizza toppings and return to oven for 10-12 minutes.
